Why do a vessel conversion? Why not simply buy a yacht that is configured for long distance cruising? The primary reason that people are increasingly buying a ship and having it converted into a yacht is because we start with a solid steel, fuel-efficient hull design and commercial-grade systems and build yacht-finish superstructure, amenities and fixtures on that foundation. The result is a rugged, continuous-duty ship, repurposed as a luxury yacht, rather than a yacht simply masquerading as an expedition vessel.
It makes sense financially and saves time. With a conversion of a commercial vessel into a yacht, an owner can save millions of dollars and save many months in the development by starting with the most appropriate existing hull, propulsion and other major commercial systems, rather than starting with a blank sheet of paper.
Some foundation or ‘donor’ vessels have ice-class hulls and most have a range of 5,000 to 15,000 miles. They can be mechanically refit as appropriate and superstructure designed to your specifications, with features including helipads, swimming pools and tender garages for cars, scooters, fishing boats, jet-skis, submarines, etc.
